Herbert Richard Baumeister (April 7, 1947 – July 3, 1996) was an American businessman and suspected serial killer linked to the deaths of at least 11 men between 1980 and 1996. Most victims were gay men who disappeared after visiting bars in the Indianapolis area. Human remains were discovered on Baumeister’s property, Fox Hollow Farm, following an investigation prompted by his family’s concerns and missing persons reports.
Before he could be arrested, Baumeister fled to Canada and died by suicide. While he was never tried, forensic evidence strongly tied him to multiple murders. His case continues to be studied for its insight into hidden deviance, sexual repression, and the social stigma surrounding homosexuality during the late 20th century.
