Herbert William Mullin (April 18, 1947 – August 18, 2022) was an American serial killer who murdered 13 people in California between 1972 and 1973. Mullin claimed his killings were intended to prevent catastrophic earthquakes, reflecting his severe schizophrenia and delusional thinking. His victims ranged from strangers to acquaintances and included both men and women.

Mullin was arrested in February 1973 after a string of random and brutal killings. He was convicted of ten counts of murder and sentenced to life imprisonment. His case is often cited in psychiatric and criminological studies as a key example of psychosis-driven serial homicide.
