Theodore John Kaczynski (May 22, 1942 – June 10, 2023), known as the “Unabomber,” was an American domestic terrorist, mathematician, and anti-technology extremist who conducted a nationwide bombing campaign between 1978 and 1995. Kaczynski mailed or hand-delivered explosive devices to universities, airlines, and individuals associated with modern technology, killing three people and injuring 23 others.

A former mathematics prodigy and professor, Kaczynski withdrew from society to live in a remote cabin in Montana, where he wrote his manifesto, Industrial Society and Its Future, condemning technological progress. He was arrested in 1996 after his brother recognized his writing style in the published manifesto. Kaczynski pleaded guilty to avoid the death penalty and was sentenced to life in prison without parole. His writings and crimes have been extensively analyzed in discussions on domestic extremism, anti-modernism, and lone-wolf terrorism.
