Timothy James McVeigh (April 23, 1968 – June 11, 2001) was an American domestic terrorist responsible for the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing, one of the deadliest acts of terrorism on U.S. soil. A former U.S. Army veteran, McVeigh detonated a truck bomb outside the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building, killing 168 people and injuring hundreds.
Motivated by anti-government ideology and anger over federal actions at Waco and Ruby Ridge, McVeigh’s attack drew widespread condemnation. He was arrested shortly afterward, convicted of federal murder and terrorism charges, and executed by lethal injection in 2001. The Oklahoma City bombing remains a pivotal case in the study of homegrown extremism and lone-actor terrorism.
