The legend of Bigfoot goes back centuries in history and covers several different continents. In North America, especially the pacific north west, you’ll hear tales of a seven foot tall hairy man stalking the forrest, and occasionally scaring campers, hikers and lumberjacks.
Bigfoot is known as several different names throughout many different cultures, however, the term “Bigfoot” is mainly attributed to the North American mountain regions. Another name commonly attributed to these large hairy men is “Sasquatch”.
North American settlers started reporting sightings during the late 1800s and into the 1900s. Footprints, sporadic encounters and even a few grainy photos and videos all added to the mystery and hysteria surrounding the legend of Bigfoot. Those who claim to have seen Bigfoot have described everything from a large, upright ape to a hairy humanoid, often standing over 7-8 feet tall and described as powerfully built. Organizations specific to these creatures exist solely to study and document Bigfoot and prove its existence, and groups regularly search the Northwest woods, looking for definitive proof.
Some believe that Bigfoot could be related to extraterrestrial beings. Many Bigfoot sightings have occurred around the same time as UFO sightings and activity. Others believe that Bigfoot and other Cryptid creatures exist in another dimension, and their sightings are related to a break in the fabric and dimensions crossing over one another.
