Many of his victims were women involved in prostitution, and several bodies were discovered in or around the Genesee River and surrounding waterways.\u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp style=\"text-align: center;\"\u003e\u003cem\u003eShawcross had previously been convicted of murdering two children in Watertown, New York, in 1972. After serving approximately 15 years, he was released on parole in 1987. Within a year, he began his Rochester area killing spree.\u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp style=\"text-align: center;\"\u003e\u003cem\u003eShawcross was arrested in January 1990 and ultimately convicted of 11 murders.
