His nickname came from the distinctive smiley faces he drew on letters and messages in which he claimed responsibility for his crimes. \u003c\/em\u003e\u003cem\u003eJesperson was a long-haul truck driver, allowing him to travel extensively and making it difficult for investigators to immediately connect his crimes.
