Ronnie “Butch” Defeo Inmate ID Card

This original New York State Department of Correctional Services inmate identification card belonged to Ronald “Butch” DeFeo Jr., the convicted murderer behind the infamous Amityville house killings. Issued during his incarceration, the card captures DeFeo not as a myth or movie figure—but as an imprisoned killer reduced to numbers, measurements, and state ink.

Cold, bureaucratic, and unsettling, this artifact reflects the stark reality of confinement following one of America’s most notorious family annihilations. The mugshot, inmate number, and institutional formatting strip away sensationalism, leaving behind the quiet menace of a man whose crimes would later fuel decades of horror lore, conspiracy, and cultural obsession.

A rare and disturbing piece of true crime memorabilia, this inmate ID stands as a tangible link to the Amityville murders, prison history, and the thin line between suburban normalcy and extreme violence. Highly sought after by serious collectors of serial killer artifacts, prison ephemera, and murderabilia, this item embodies the darkness of real-world crime—unaltered and undeniable.
