A unique piece of true crime memorabilia, this original poem written and signed by Dennis L. Rader, better known as the BTK Killer, offers a rare glimpse into the creative and personal side of one of America’s most notorious serial killers.
Titled “Blue Skies and a Day of Okay,” the poem is presented on a printed page bearing Rader’s name and is accompanied by his original handwritten notes, illustrations, and signature. Dennis Lynn Rader (born March 9, 1945) is an American serial killer known as the “BTK Killer,” an acronym for “Bind, Torture, Kill,” describing his method of murder. Between 1974 and 1991, Rader murdered ten people in and around Wichita, Kansas. He led a seemingly ordinary life, working as a compliance officer and serving as president of his local church council.
Rader taunted police and media through letters detailing his crimes, maintaining contact with authorities for decades. After a long hiatus, he resumed communication in 2004, which eventually led to his capture in 2005 through forensic and digital evidence. Rader pleaded guilty to ten counts of first-degree murder and was sentenced to ten consecutive life terms without the possibility of parole. His case is frequently examined for its insight into organized serial offenders and the psychology of control and deception.
