Timothy James McVeigh was an American domestic terrorist responsible for the April 19, 1995, bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. McVeigh detonated a truck bomb outside the federal building, killing 168 people, including 19 children, and injuring hundreds more.
Motivated by anti-government and extremist beliefs, McVeigh targeted the federal government in retaliation for events such as the 1993 Waco siege and the Ruby Ridge incident. He was arrested shortly after the bombing and ultimately convicted on federal murder and conspiracy charges.
McVeigh was sentenced to death and executed by lethal injection at the U.S. Penitentiary in Terre Haute, Indiana, on June 11, 2001. He remains one of the most notorious domestic terrorists in American history.
