This original one-page handwritten letter authored by Richard Ramirez, accompanied by its matching hand-signed envelope, represents a rare piece of documented prison correspondence from one of the most infamous criminal figures in modern American history.

Known as the “Night Stalker,” Ramirez was convicted in connection with a series of highly publicized crimes in California during the 1980s. During his incarceration, he maintained written communication with select correspondents, and surviving examples of complete letters with original mailing envelopes remain highly sought after within established true crime and criminal history collecting circles.

The letter is handwritten entirely in Ramirez’s hand, offering direct insight into his tone, phrasing, and personality during incarceration. Richard Ramirez (February 29, 1960 – June 7, 2013), known as “The Night Stalker,” was an American serial killer, rapist, and burglar active in California between 1984 and 1985. His crimes were marked by extreme violence and satanic symbolism, targeting victims of varied ages and backgrounds. Ramirez’s attacks created widespread fear throughout Los Angeles and San Francisco.

He was arrested in August 1985 after being recognized and subdued by local residents. In 1989, Ramirez was convicted of 13 counts of murder and numerous other charges, including attempted murder, sexual assault, and burglary. He was sentenced to death and remained on death row at San Quentin State Prison until his death from complications related to B-cell lymphoma on June 7, 2013.
