A rare and remarkable pair of original Chicago Police Department Daily Bulletins from July 16–17, 1966, issued in the immediate aftermath of the murders of eight student nurses in Chicago.
The July 16 bulletin features a police composite sketch of an unidentified suspect, along with additional wanted and missing-person notices. The accompanying July 17 bulletin prominently features a photograph of Richard Speck, identifying him as “WANTED FOR MURDER” and providing his physical description and identifying information.
These bulletins offer an extraordinary contemporary snapshot of the investigation as it unfolded, before Speck was captured and identified as the perpetrator. Produced for official police use and marked “CONFIDENTIAL,” they provide a rare glimpse into the investigative and law-enforcement response to one of Chicago’s most notorious murder cases.
